September's inaugural event, Local Leading Women in IT, is an interactive panel discussion with four brilliant local women leading IT success in the Greater Madison area:

Erika Ferrell -- IT Director at Sub Zero

Jane Ryan -- Division VP of IT, Service Management for Spectrum Brands

Kara Burkhalter -- VP of Data Engineering & End User Technology for Healthgrades

Michele Stanton -- Program Director, IT Applications for Exact Sciences

Erika Ferrell - Erika joined Sub-Zero Group Inc. thirteen years ago moving up through the ranks to her current position as Director of Information Technology Shared Services. Sub-Zero Group Inc. is a privately held, family owned company headquartered in Madison, WI that manufactures best in class luxury home appliances. In her role, she has extensive experience working towards creating results in business and a passion of building strong teams. Erika holds a degree in Management from Upper Iowa University, Professional Development Executive Leadership Certificate from the Wisconsin School of Business and a Microcomputer Specialist Degree. Erika is also active on local advisory committees for local Technical Colleges and is on the Board of Women in Manufacturing (WiM). Erika is a committee chair for WiM’s nominating and governance committee. Erika is dedicated to helping people grow in their abilities to communicate, lead, and manage in their professional and personal lives.

Jane Ryan -  As the Division VP, IT Service Management at Spectrum Brands, Inc, Jane Ryan leads and directs IT professionals responsible for providing quality support and ever increasing value to our end-users for all infrastructure operations covering data center, network, server, telephony, service monitoring, user support/service desk, distributed computing, servers, storage and related software. Her role is operationally responsible for ensuring the availability for all IT applications and infrastructure. Prior to SPB, she worked for many different companies in the past such as Whirlpool Corporation, Target Corporation and AG Edwards and Sons to name a few. All of her roles have been Infrastructure Engineering and Support related. She has a Masters ITIL Certification and uses that framework to make operational improvements.

Kara Burkhalter - Kara Burkhalter is a self-made technologist. With her first roles in programming and database development, she developed hands-on skills. From there, she has further expanded her knowledge and skills in cloud technologies, infrastructure and end-user systems management. Throughout her career, she's also been passionate about continuous process improvement and has a long track record of improving operational efficiencies in and across her teams. She now oversees 8 teams with over 50 employees across multiple locations. Kara is also an active delegate, supporting the Madison Reading Project - working to bring the power of reading to kids with less access to books.

Michele Stanton - Michele Stanton is the IT Director for Commercial Operations, Sales & Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Exact Sciences. In this role, she is responsible for partnering with these business areas to enable the organization’s product, sales and brand strategies through technology. Prior to Exact Sciences, Michele was the SVP and Head of Global IT Strategy and Transformation at QBE, responsible for driving the global technology services strategy. This role succeeded a previous role at QBE where she was the Head of Global Platforms, responsible for delivering global technology capabilities for digital, sales and underwriting. Michele has held a number of additional IT and business roles at QBE and before that, at CUNA Mutual Group.
